My first internship

Nothing in school quite prepares you for your first standup meeting.

The biggest adjustment wasn't the code, it was the pace of decisions. In class you have weeks to plan a project. On a team, you make a call in an afternoon and move on. That took some getting used to.

A few things that helped me ramp up faster than I expected:

• Reading old pull requests before writing any code of my own
• Asking "what happens if this fails" out loud, even when I thought I knew the answer
• Writing smaller PRs than felt necessary
